The Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance is having a Drug Summit: Prescription Drug Diversion/Pain Management joint meeting of the Boards of Osteopathic Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

The Public is invited to speak. It is estimated that 6 of 10 Floridians have undertreated or non-treated pain. According to Executive Director Pamela E. King, this is an opportunity for Floridians to speak of their experiences regarding access to and treatment for pain.

The Division makes recommendations which shape health care policy law, rules, and regulations. Practitioners are invited to speak as well. Topics include: "The chilling effect is no myth" and "Drug control policy out of balance". Spokespersons for law enforcement will speak on diversion, monitoring programs, etc.

The Drug Summit is February 29, 2008 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00p.m. It will be held at the Ramada Inn on US 27 North, at the I-10 interchange in Tallahassee, Florida.
