Do you take a short-acting opioid to manage your breakthrough pain?

181 Comment Responses

Answer

past Doctor prescribed Fentora 400mg.This was the most effective medicine I have taken to decrease Breakthrough pain. From a 10 to a 4 in ten mins.

i have a morphine pump, but now i have hydromorphone, a stronger drug in it now.

I take Oxycodone 5mg 5/day and it doesn't touch the pain

Oxycodone w/aspirin and ultram

Do not know what opioid is?

A combination of morphine and hydromorphone to be adjusted as needed

I'm not sure what opioids are I am on lycria& hydrocondone

I take short and time release.

I'm not too sure which one Lortab (Hydrocodone) is considered to be, though if it is a short acting, Yes, I do take one.

oxycodone 5mg

actually I take an ER and IR as well

I TAKE MY MEDS CORRECTLY .PAIN IS VERY SEVERE AT THE BREAK THROUGH POINT.IT HELPS SOME-WHAT FULL BODY VERY HARD TO CONTROL!MY CASE SEVERE,NOT SEENALOT

I had taken opioid in the past but will not take them now because of the research that indicates opioids may worsen RSD.

hydrocodone

I take a 24 hr time release name brand. The generic made me really ill

I'm on a morphoine pump.

I have fentanyl 50mg patches for breakthrough pain.

Using Suboxozone for pain management not for opoid addiction through Pain Management Doctor

in w/c debacle and cannot get an authorization to see specialist.

No. Only tylenol and mild prescription drug. Many allergies to drugs. My choice not to.

5mg of loritab about 4 times a day on a good day. Sometimes I have to take more to control pain and it scares me(afraid of addiction) .

codine

arthritis pain med--but does not last for a long period of time

I take 5mg Morphine Sulfate for breakthrough pain and do't have any clue how i would cope without it!

I was prescribed morphine (a longer acting form) but was unable to take it unfortunately, my joints became swollen & painful.

I take liquid morphine four hourly. But when the pain hits with a vengence, I would take 10ml to 20ml at the time

I use Actiq lollipops. I have no side effects, and can drive and function while controling my pain.

I weare fentanyl patches and also take a breakthru medicine for the pain after therapy

iusually take fentanyl patches every fortnight or have general anaesthetics every 6 to 8 & or use additional ketamine puffer.

I FELL IS A GREAT HELP.IT HAS ITS PLACE IN RSD MANAGEMENT.I TAKE 20 10/325 NORCORS A MONTH AND STILL HAVE TO BEG FOR THAT IF SHE EVEN GIVES THEM TO ME

We tried at one point using Oxycodone but my reaction was such that I would not consider using it again.

Doesn't help much (morphine) and haven't found anything else that will touch it.

I have recently beenctaken off of all opioids so that I could do the Ketemine Infusion and a trial stimilator. Neither have worked for me.

not yet as i still wait dr to discuss with me about nervous block shots in two weeks

Since everyday is never the same some days it works and others it does not.

Am supplying this information for my 14 y.o. daughter who has CRPS.

I take Actiq, which is fast-acting.

Nuerontin and Tramodol

have a neurostimulator

I take 30 mg of Avinza for pain, breakthru pain at times; send me to hospital and given added morphine, 2 - 4 mgs as needed

I was until I moved to Missouri. The dr.'s here will not prescribe them long term, even tho I was on them 4yrs. They only use them for acute situation

My pain mgmt dr. is very strict with the dosing. 3 Oxycodone (15mg) tablets is all he allows me, so I cut them in half and take 1/2 every four hr.s

It's never enough.

I occassionally take vikodin, but for the most part opioids aren't very helpful. Instead we increase another med like neurontin or lyrica.

This is the only type that works.

Yes,I also take Lidoderm 5% Patches.Then I sit
quietly if possible.
Rainy humid weather,
overdo. if you can take a med early it sometimes helps.

Tramacet and it helps with the pain at times.

take Kadian 30 mg 4 times
btp oxycodone 5 mg. takt 1/2 tablets every 4 hrs

I am also on the Fentanyl patch with other drugs in addition to the opiods.

I have fentanyl patches/haven't tried them. Afraid to have allergic reaction. Allergic to all pain medicine/anti-inflammatories.

Wish there was something I could afford to help with this pain

I have to take for now, short acting pain meds. I have had many problems w/long lasting ones. They dont work or i am allergic. More info if needed.

DOCTORS ARE RELUCTANT TO PRESCRIBE ANYTHING FOR BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. I HAD TO SIGN A NARCOTICS CONTRACT AND MY MEDS ARE CAREFULLY MONITORED.

long acting in the morning and night. Short acting for breakthrough pain.

I take Percocet 10/650 for breakthrough pain.

I've asked about BTP meds because I feel that they are necessary in controlling pain, even with opioids onboard.

Percocett, Duragesic Patch

only take if extremely neccessary

I take Oxycodone 20mg 3 times a day for my CRPS. Oxycodone 5mg, every 4-6 hours as needed for my breakthrough pain.

My Doc like most,is hesitant to prescribe more than one thing for pain. I really wish he would.

ultram 50mg/4-6 hrs for pain

i'm currently on Narco 10/325 for breakthrough pain & I'm on Kadian time-released (60) mg/dy

Sometimes; Dr. is VERY cautious about perscribing opiods as he doesn't want it to become a habit.

vicodin

Yes, if oxycodone is considered an opiod ,Is it? and oxycocete? (I am on both the slow and break through ones)

oxycontin SR 120mg and roxicodone 30 mg QID for breakthrough

Lortab 7.5

Fentora

if vicodin es is fits the discription

I am on vicodin HP 4 per day. it doesn't seem to really keep it at bay for the duration of time alloted.nor do i feel it is strong enough

suboxone/nalaone

I take Percocet for breakthrough pain however after RSD for 9yrs, I am afraid of my own meds; Try to stick with main pain med, afraid of taking more.

Hydrocodone every 4-hours & on Morphine patch

MS Instant release tabs 15 MG I can take up to three of them in one day if needed for breakthrough pain.

i do not want to become addidcted to meds so i just deal with it most of the time

but noting seems to help/my leg hurts all the time

I find that on occasion I must take two of my 30mg Codeine initially and then another in 4 hours to control and maintain sanity. And I use Lidoderm.

long acting

I used to be on short-acting opioid medicine but stoped it due to having a baby.

Am taking Clonazepam 1mg @ noon & 2mg. @ bedtime to help/Topamax 2X's p/day @ 100mg. ea. but it's not helping much ... Am too senative to pain meds

I don't know what that is.

Was using Actiq - insurance will no longer pay for it. Now use Oxyfast but it is not as effective. My BTP is no longer very well controlled.

Allergic to morphine, my daughter takes Daladuid (? spelling) when she has been in the er for the pain crisis

drs think nothing is wrong with me

not at this time

It only takes the worst top of the pain, but i´t´s worth it.

getting break-thru pain meds from my doc is like pulling teeth! even though i've been with the practice for 15 years.

i never found them to help with my RSD pain

what are they?

Used to take Vicodin 5/500, then Norco 10 mg 10/325, now Ketamine 10 mg tid. Methadone is primary.

I use opioid for back and shoulder isssues.

I am taking anti-inflammatory permanently to be able to function a little

some time they work and sometime they dont. Most of the time it seem that the only way to control BTP is to take the max allowed, and pray to fal asleep

they don't work

just make me drunk don't help the pain at all

so far, I've been resistant to narcotic meds and manage to compress daily living to manage pain but not sure how long I can continue this choice.

vicodine

i take methadone, tried every narcotic out there and this one is the best for my tummy and helps sort of with the pain. i also have a SCS to help.

I'm on opioid daily.

I'm taking morphine sulfate ER.

MSIR 30mg 6/day allocated and "normally" I use 3/day avg. and as many as 9 when my RSD is out of control. Same treatment strategy w/o change +2 yrs.

An injection of an anti-imflammatory drug works well for me such as a series of epidurals, stellate ganglion block, or trigger points

OXYCDONE 40MGER TABS.2A DAY,OXYCODONE/APAP 10MG/325MG TABS 4 HRS.,LYRICA 150MG CAPS2 A DAYTHEY WERE75MG)MY FEET,KNEES SWALLOW UP,WHERE I CAN NOT WALK

pain medication doesnt work

Opana ER for Long Term and oxycontin 15 mg for short acting pain and Actiq 600 mcg for severe breakthrough pain.

My doctors will give me anything I want to try, but I have never had any medication that has relieved my discomfort.

dilaudid

I just take percocet (5/325)all the time. When I have flare ups I just suffer and dream about cutting my leg off.

i take 600mgs. of gapapenten a day

I TAKE 800+MG OF IBUPROPHEN, ELEVATE MY LEGS AND APPLY HEATING PADS AND WAIT IT OUT.

I am allergic to all narcodics

It wasn't working for me!

I take 15mg of MSIR (Morphine Sulfate Instant Release) up to 3x's a day as needed.

Fentynal for LT control (75mg)& 4mg Diladid x 4hrs round the clock and I do utilize around the clock, sometimes 2 pills at a time to get any relief

I take morphine Immediate release 30mg.

The pain Clinic I go to only gives Kadian, which I cannot take,I brake out in hives all over>The other Clinics I have been to say They cannot help me

I usually end up in the hospital for pain management, for this type of pain breakthrough.

I am writing for my 17 year old daughter. Hard to get any pain meds for her other than lyrica and utram.

I only take when I just cannot take any more pain though. I truly hate my medications.

For breakthrough pain, I take Tylenol

I take 10mg of Oxycodone for b.p.pain
with 650mg. of Acetamenaphen

No longterm opioids (last question confusing)

And that is all I take and it doesn't help. I would really like to be on a long acting med.

Not yet. Still working with depressants and anti-empilptic meds.

I have Ketamine boosters

I take short acting opioids all the time i don't find that the long lasting ones do much for the pain plus they make me very sick for some reason.

longer acting

I take perks and morphine sulfate for break through pain

I was taking Actiq but CIGNA denied it using the "off-label" excuse after reluctantly covering it for 4 yrs - it is inhumane-they need to be stopped.

I have a Medtronic pump that administers morphine and baclophen; I have oxycodone IR 5mg for breakthrough.

I was but I had to get off them before I get a spinal cord stimulator

vicodin and oxycotin 10 mg extended release I don't think any meds can stop that pain, you have to take it

it doesn't help much though, except to knock me out.

i takr darocent 11/650 6-8 pills

Roxicodone is my breakthru medication. Is wonderful RX that works very good but only lasts about 1 hour. Don't know what I'd do without them.

I ake morphin MS 60 mg at one time 3 times a day

Was taking short-acting morphine prescribed by previous family practice doc, however, current pain mgmt doc says not needed.

I take methadone for pain and oxycodone for breakthrough pain

None work.

Percocet 10mg as needed

allergic to morphine and its derivitives.

Norco 10/325 I have to take 2 tabs generally every 4 hours and I do this two to three times with breakthrough pain.

Allergic to every opiod tried.

I have had severe rxns to opiods including seizures that went unrecognized for a long time. I also had opiate induced hyperalgesia

I use hydrocodone for breakthrough pain, and I am becoming tolerant to this medication. It doesn't "cover" the breakthrough episodes as well as it did

i take a time released morphine as of 4-1-08

i take percoset. usually 3 a day, when i wake around midafternoon and then bedtime, but a flare will send me diving for a 4th. today was a 4 kinda day

? not sure, but you insisted on an answer

Actiq

MY DOCTOR DOES NOT APPROVE OF OPIOID MEDICATIONS. HE FEELS THAT THEY CHANGE THE WAY YOUR BRAIN PERCEIVES PAIN.

Fentanyl - lozengers - 200 mg

I am presently in remission from severe pain but would use an opiod if it recurrs.

For breakthrough pain, which is worse than the baseline pain, I take an extra neurontin and use lidoderm patches if the pain is localized enough,

I also take Lyrica 75 mg if it feels like nerve pain

I usually double my Omega 3 and might take an Aleve.

I am now taking 5/325 Percocet for the breakthrough pain and it does help much of the time.
