RSDSA Honored by Korean CRPS Patients Association
RSDSA Review, Fall 2007

In late November, Jim Broatch, RSDSA executive director and Peter Moskovitz, MD, a member of the RSDSA Board of Directors, were the guests of the Korean CRPS Patients Association at the annual meeting of the Korean Pain Society in Seoul. Both gentlemen gave presentations to the Pain Society. In addition, they met with a group of pain practitioners and principal organizers of the Pain Society as well as representatives of various pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

International Spotlight: CRPS Association in Korea
RSDSA Review, Spring 2007

The CRPS Association in Korea was established in 2002 to promote public awareness of CRPS in Korea. The organization strives to realize and secure the rights of patients and share stories to give strength to each other.

Also it gives patients, family members, healthcare professionals, and others the information on disease, its treatment, legislation, support groups and stories through website and media relations. There have been more than 60 press releases and TV programs on CRPS.

The 2005 registry of National Health Insurance estimated approximately 12,000 CRPS patients in Korea, but the number will be closer to 20,000 if patients from industrial disasters and traffic accidents were included. Yong Woo Lee, the president of the Korean CRPS Association, has forged close ties with RSDSA. At his suggestion, a South Korean documentarian visited the United States in June to film people with CRPS participating in the NY Achilles walk and to meet with Jim Broatch to buttress their case that the South Korean Government recognize CRPS as a legitimate medical syndrome deserving of more attention and funding for treatment and research.
